Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Hon. Professor - Edge Hill University
I have been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Internationally renowned "Centre for Hip Surgery" at Wrightington Hospital and at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 1996. I deal with General Orthopaedics and have a special interest in Sports Injuries, Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, Hip & Knee Replacement & Forefoot Surgery. I perform Computer Aided Surgery for complex Knees and use Ceramics in Young patients.
I use the latest Patient Specific Knee Replacements (made and created specifically for that individual patient) for Complex Difficult Knees.
I am one of very few Orthopaedic Surgeons in the U.K. who has published his Personal Outcomes of Surgery in International peer-reviewed journals.
In my Personal series of Hip and Knee Replacements since 1996 to-date as Consultant, only 3 patients have developed early deep infection as a complication in 11.5 years and NO patient has developed any early post-op MRSA infection of the artificial joint .
I have published my personal results of Total Hip Replacement surgery in the British Journal of Bone & Jt. Surgery in 2005 which showed a 100% survivorship of the artificial joint at 9 years for aseptic loosening.
My personal results of Total Knee Replacement surgery have been recently published in Acta Orthopaedica Belgica in 2007 which showed a 99.4% survivorship of the artificial joint at 9 years.
I have recently published the results of my own Personal technique of Bunion Surgery in the American Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery showing 96% good results.
Prof. Sir John Charnley introduced the present day successful Hip Replacement operation to the world in the early 1960's at Wrightington Hospital.
I did my basic Orthopaedic Training in Bombay, India at the King Edward Memorial Hospital (University of Bombay) and was a Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Hospital before coming to U.K.
I trained in U.K. as a Registrar in Orthopaedics at Oswestry on a 3 year rotation. My Senior Registrar Rotation was at Birmingham working at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham and the Coventry DGH.
I gained further training in my fields of special interest during the Surgical Fellowships:
A 3-year Senior Surgical Fellowship in Revision Arthroplasty of the Hip and Knee with Prof. Mike Wroblewski at "The Centre for Hip Surgery", Wrightington Hospital.
Clinical Fellowship in Allograft Reconstruction during Revision Hip and Knee Surgery and Fresh Allograft Reconstruction in young patients' knees under Prof. Allan Gross at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Visiting Fellowship in Hip and Knee arthroplasty and Arthroscopic Knee Surgery at The Mayo Clinic and The Massachusetts General Hospital in U.S.A.
During my training period I acquired a Masters Degree in Orthopaedic Surgery (M.Ch.Orth.) from the University of Liverpool and from the University of Bombay (M.S.Orth.). I secured the Speciality Fellowship in Orthopaedics (F.R.C.S.Ed. Orth.) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I was given the Honour of being invited to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in appreciation of my Clinical Research work and my Publications in the field of Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. I have more than 30 International publications to my credit and have been invited to lecture on Joint Replacement Surgery at various international and national conferences. I have made more than 115 presentations.
